Sometimes the phone rings. Sometimes you know whats going to happen. Then you answer it anyway.

There was a call I got from a gentleman who wanted some help with his order. I couldn't find any information in his order that he was asking for. I told him I needed to contact some shipping companies and some other people to get the information he needed.

He was absolutely livid about the entire thing. Screaming on the phone, demanding that things be done, complaining that nothing was being done.

I told him I could help him and that I needed to call the shipping company and talk to some other people to find out the right info. I told him I would call him back. He said that was not sufficient, and requested more info.

"Give me your name and number, so that I can get a hold of you when things go wrong."
"My name is Adam and I..."
"No! Give me your last name because when I call there will probably be 10 Adam's that work there."
"Sure, its Konieska and I am the only Adam."
"Konieska? What kind of name is that? How the _____ do you spell that?"
"It's K-O-N-I-E-S-K-A, its Polish sir"
"That explains it...."
"Excuse me?"
"You dumb pollack. Give me a call when you figure out what the ____ you're doing."
"Sure, can I get a phone number to reach you at?"
"701-555-1234. That's my cell phone. I have it with me all the time except when I'm in the shower and when I'm ________ your mom."
"Can you give me the number again so I know I've got it right?"
"SEVEN" *pause*
"Zero" *pause*
"One, am I going slow enough for you you dumb pollack?"
"Yes. That's just fine."

I don't get people sometimes. I'm trying to help you. Please don't insult me. Please don't yell at me.

I called him back after I found the right answers to his questions. He was calmer, and apologized with a simple "I'm sorry for acting up earlier."

Which is fine. In his mind there was nothing more that needed to be said. In his eyes the things he said and how he said them didn't carry the same weight that they do in my eyes.

Sometimes the phone rings. Sometimes you know whats going to happen. Then you answer it anyway.

And this is why I don't work at the Desk anymore.

Seriously, isn't there a point when we can just hang up, refund their money, and tell them to get bent? Because this is abuse however you look at it, and it is NOT part of the job description.

That would have made me cry, and apparently that's the only way you can get people to feel bad about what they've done. I can have the worst day at school (ie kids put condoms on my door or they get up and walk out of class) but no matter what, it can never be as bad as working at the desk. I hope not everyday is like that for you and that things are going well. I miss you all very much. Take care!!
