gone fishing

posted Tuesday, May 31st 2011 at 7:13 PM by

I went fishing this weekend for the first time in probably five years. Its been a long time. The fishing was slow but we had a lot of fun playing cards and games and stuff too.

But the fishing was slow

We took my boat out three different times, and between the four of us we only caught one fish. And naturally being the outstanding hunter/gatherer I am, it was me that actually caught the fish.

And it was tasty.

Walleye Photo

Back in my day, before Photoshop, we made our fish look bigger by holding them out in front toward the camera. I think I threw out my back trying to distort this one.

never fall back

posted Monday, March 15th 2010 at 4:42 PM by

Daylight savings time seems to be getting sneakier... I didn't even realize it until 5:30 PM on Sunday that it was actually 6:30 PM... normally I'm prepared weeks in advance, but not so much this year.

But I am pretty excited for the time change, cause now i'll be able to spend more time in the field. plus i'll be using less candles.

Thats win-win.

decimation

posted Tuesday, January 12th 2010 at 4:30 PM by

I'm actually pretty disgusted that decimation has such a bad reputation. People say "oh they were decimated" and make it sound like there were no survivors. The word itself comes from Latin and essentially means 1 in 10.

Don't believe me? Read the wikipedia article about it. Don't believe them? Take a time machine back to ancient Rome and ask around.

So decimating means that every one in ten is destroyed. Which leaves you with a 90% survival rate. So if the news tells me a plague is going to decimate society... I'll take my chances.

It's when things are going to be bimated that you need to be worried.

demons

I think its weird when people say they're battling inner demons. Better inner demons than outer demons I always say.

I mean its really like you're just struggling against yourself, there aren't any demons involved. Its not like you get home from work and there's a guy with fangs and bat wings and goat legs with a fire sword battling you.

'cause that'd be a lot tougher sounding than trying to quit smoking.

JL Beers

JL Beers

An unofficial review of an officially awesome restaurant.

JL Beers in downtown Fargo is AWESOME. You can get a hand made burger, with any extras you could possibly want. And your choice between fries or freshly made chips. Top it off with one of 50+ beers they have on tap. All that for around EIGHT dollars. Suck on that Subway.

Plus, its conveniently located downtown near both work and home. I may gain 300 pounds this winter.

alligator navigator

I was watching this show on tv where they were checking raccoons for diseases. They'd catch them in a live trap, then drug them, and take a blood sample. Then they left the drugged raccoon curled up near a log. Claiming it was perfectly harmless.

Yeah. Until a grizzly bear waddles by and says "All right! Free raccoon!"

But, you win some you lose some... or something...

Watch out for live traps.

i miss college

Not really.

But kind of. I mean not the homework and stuff. Or the work. Or the classes.

Not that stuff.

But the insane amounts of fun we had doing weird college stuff. Like trying to climb walls for fun. Or playing video games for 48 continuous hours. And it was always a good idea to have enough bail money on you, and to wear something fireproof.

Ok, back to real life now.

Just put together a new gun case. Made from a guitar case, spray in insulation, cardboard, glue, and black velvet guitar case fuzz. Pretty classy.

I'm really looking forward to daylight saving time. I think that's what its called. Or are we on daylight saving time now, and switching back to standard time this weekend?

Who knows. But what I do know, is the extra hour of sleep is going to be awesome. So awesome, that we should do it every weekend.

This was said about Richard Heene, the mastermind (and I use the term loosely) behind the hoax...
