Daylight Saving Time

The end is near for daylight saving time. I'm not talking about this year, I'm suggesting it should be over forever. National Geographic cites three big reasons why we should forget about falling back — forever.

Improve Search Rank by Building a Sitemap and sitemap.xml

Improve search ranking with a Sitemap

What is a Sitemap?

There are two different kinds of sitemaps used on websites. The one most people think of is a sitemap (note the lowercase s) page used to give users (humans) a listing of pages and their relationships. Here's an example sitemap page.

The second type, is a Sitemap (capital S this time) document. This is an XML file used specifically to give search crawlers (robots) a list of what pages are on the site, and some information about them. Typically named sitemap.xml, this document helps search engines crawl the site more intelligently. It gives them a listing of the pages you want them to crawl, their updated time, update frequency, and their level of imprtance in relation to each other.

Lets take a loot at the Sitemap tags, and a few examples.

GoPro Weapon Mount Review Part II: Non-Railed Mounts

GoPro Weapon Mount Review Part II: Non-Railed Mounts

In trying to find reviews of GoPro mounts for rifles, I was disappointed that nothing I found online seemed to talk about how to mount them, or if it did, it didn't show any example photos of what the mount looked like, and what the images looked like when mounted.

Just like my earlier review for GoPro mounts for rifles with rails, this review will covers a couple different mounting options if you've got a rifle without rails. Oh yeah, and lots of pictures.

Munzee Announces MunzPak Service

Munzee MunzPak kit contents

This is some exciting news from Munzee. I'd been getting my supplies and codes for my Munzee Field Kit sort of randomly. Usually I'd just order or print some new Munzees if I was running low or getting ready to travel, but the new MunzPak subscription service sounds pretty appealing because...

GoPro Weapon Mount Review Part I: Picatinny Rail Mounts

So I wanted to find a GoPro mount that would fit nicely on my rifles. When looking for examples or reviews online, I didn't find much that showed how they attached or what the images would look like. So I decided to try a couple and post the results. Enter the contenders:

Automate Your Website Build With Grunt

Grunt Logo

I've been doing a lot of website work lately, lots of which includes repetitive tasks like minifying CSS and Javascript assets after making changes. Which is an inefficient use of time and can lead to mistakes. And I'm only one guy, having a team of developers all trying to manage the same repetitive tasks and get a consistent, high quality product gets to be a headache unless you use some kind of automation.

Here's how to automate those tasks using Grunt...

I don't remember putting on any Loctite, maybe I forgot or maybe it comes that way from the factory. In either case, here is how I replaced the EoTech picatinny rail screw with a thumb screw.

Rise of the Machines! A Spam Story

Terminator 2: Spam Day
The Skynet Funding Bill is passed. The system goes on-line August 4th, 1997. Human decisions are removed from strategic defense. Skynet begins to learn at a geometric rate. It becomes self-aware at 2:14 a.m. Eastern time, August 29th. In a panic, they try to pull the plug.

It was bound to happen sooner or later, spam bots hitting the comment forms over and over! I was getting around 2,000 comment submissions per day from these friendly robots bent on world domination.

I could reduce it with one of those clunky off the shelf captchas, but lets face it, they aren't without their problems either, especially...
